IDD group homes: Department of Mental Health

Residential programs serving people with intellectual or developmental disabilities fall under the Missouri Department of Mental Health. DMH's Office of Licensure and Certification licenses group homes and residential centers under 9 CSR 40-5, and certifies Medicaid waiver providers using its certification survey instrument and community-based services standards. The license covers the facility and program; certification qualifies you to deliver and bill waiver services.

Senior care: Department of Health and Senior Services

Residential care facilities and assisted living facilities are licensed by DHSS through its Section for Long Term Care Regulation. A residential care facility provides 24-hour care and protective oversight to residents who can evacuate unassisted, with no nursing home administrator required. An assisted living facility carries heavier requirements, including a licensed nursing home administrator. Some facilities are dually licensed by DHSS and DMH.
