PROVIDING SOCIAL SUPPORT AND COMPANIONSHIP FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES OR THE ELDERLY
Companion Care Services in Minnesota are designed to provide non-medical support, social interaction, and companionship for individuals who may feel isolated or need assistance with daily routines. 2. COMPANION CARE SERVICE OVERVIEW
Companion Care Services focus on promoting well-being and reducing social isolation through companionship and supportive interactions. Services are tailored according to the Individual Service Plan (ISP) or Person-Centered Plan (PCP) and may include:
Social interaction and conversation
Accompaniment to appointments or community events
Assistance with light household tasks
Meal preparation and assistance with eating
Assistance with hobbies or recreational activities
Safety supervision and companionship
3. LICENSING & PROVIDER APPROVAL REQUIREMENTS
Prerequisites:
Register business with the Minnesota Secretary of State
Obtain EIN from the IRS and NPI (Type 2)
Enroll as a Medicaid provider with the Minnesota Department of Human Services
Obtain a Companion Care Services License from the Minnesota Department of Health (if required)
Maintain liability insurance and documentation of staff qualifications
