If you already hold a home health license, you may be able to add children's HCBS waiver services without starting over.

Children's home and community based services let you support children with developmental and behavioral needs right in their communities, through services like community habilitation, respite, and day programs. For providers who are already licensed, the path is often simpler than you think.

Adding HCBS is usually a certification, not a new license

In many states, your existing home health license can be extended to include HCBS waiver services through a designation or certification process, so you build on what you already have instead of re-applying from scratch.

Expect a multi-agency state review

Certification often involves more than one state agency, each reviewing a different part of your readiness. Strong, well-organized documentation is what moves your review forward: updated policies and procedures, financial viability records, and letters of support.

After certification, billing comes online

Once you are certified, your Medicaid service codes are activated and managed care credentialing follows, so you can begin serving families and billing for the services you are approved to deliver.
